Proposed Septic System
Mr. Davis plans to install new septic systems for the new residences.
Expected On-Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage
Maximum expected usage on the Site would be from the current and future residents of
the Site. Septic system design should be based on the San Joaquin County On-Site
Wastewater Treatment Systems Standards (2017) or other engineering
recommendations.
Soil Borings
On April 19, 2021, Live Oak observed the drilling of shallow and deep percolation test
borings by Central Valley Septic Services with a Spiradrill LHD 50 drilling rig. The
borings were 12 inches in diameter and 3.50 and 19.34 feet deep. The location of the
borings is indicated on Plate 3.
In the test borings, sandy silt was encountered to 5 feet below ground surface (bgs),
followed by fine to coarse sand with silt to 9 feet bgs, sandy clay to 12 feet bgs, clay to
14 feet bgs, sandy clay with silt to 19 feet bgs, and fine to medium sand with silt to the
full depth of the hole. The soil log is presented on Plate 4.
Discussion of Soil Lithology
Based on the soil observed in the borings, there appears to be limited potential for
percolation in the shallow soil zone but good potential in the deep soil zone. Sandy
soils generally have a much greater potential for percolation than fine-grained or
cemented soils. However, a percolation test is the only accepted method for
determining the suitability of the soils for a septic disposal area. Percolation test results
are discussed in the following section.
Percolation Test
A shallow and deep percolation test was conducted in the proposed septic disposal
area of the Site. The soil borings discussed above were used for the percolation
testing. Percolation test procedures conformed to San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department policy.
Preparation and Presaturation of Percolation Test Holes
After the borings were advanced by hand auger and the soil logged, the test holes were
completed for the percolation testing. Approximately two inches of pea gravel were
placed in the bottom of each open soil boring, followed by a 2.0-inch diameter PVC pipe
LOGE 2119 Page 2
