CHEVRON ENERGY TECHNOLOGY COMPANY
INTEGRATED LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIES
PROJECT SUMMARY
Project No 2012.0012 Requested by Michael Oliphant
Date Initiated 2/29/2012 Location CEMC
6101 Bollinger Canyon Road,
Date Completed 3/27/2012 San Ramon, CA 94583
CRTC Charge Code YWES01570110 Phone (925) 790-6431
Project Description:
Analyze one soil sample SB-1-39 collected from site Ahern Road-Vernalis located
at Vernalis, California. Fingerprint sample to identify any hydrocarbon that may be
present.
Results:
The soil sample contains a moderately weathered crude oil. The normal alkanes
have been lost due to biodegradation with the iso-paraffins as the prominent peaks. The
sample shows an UCM (unresolved complex mixture) hump stretching from C20-C44
hydrocarbon range. It has a very similar biomarker region ranged from C28-C32
compared with a SJV crude oil.
Table 1 H drocarbon Distribution By GC-FID
approximate approximate
hydrocarbon moisture C6- C7-C10 C11-C14 C15-C24 C25+
Sample ID concentration in content in (area %) (area %) (area %) (area %) (area %)
soil, mg/Kg o
(wet weight)
soil, /o
2012.0012-1 133.0 14.0 0.0 4.4 24.8 37.5 33.3
SB-1-39
Analytical Approach:
The sample was analyzed by gas chromatography using a flame ionization detector
to determine the hydrocarbon composition.
Analyzed by: C.
