7. Report the volume of excavated soil disposed off-site, or remaining on site.
Approximately 29.86 tons of soil were removed from the Hunter Container property by WHF,
Inc. (WHF)in 1996 as part of the waste/bum pit investigation. The soil was disposed at a
Class 1 hazardous waste facility located in Kettleman City, California(WHF, 1996; Appendix
BA). The excavation was unrelated to HPP-BTR activities.
8. Describe the fate of any remaining monitoring and remediation wells(destroyed,
ownership transferred, or to remain in use).
Groundwater monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-5 were destroyed in August 2008. Wells MW-1,
MW-2, and MW-3 were destroyed in July 2010. No groundwater monitoring wells remain at the
Site.
9. Provide tabulated results of all groundwater elevations and depths to water.
A comprehensive table showing all tabulated results of groundwater elevations and depths to
water is included in the SAIC Annual 2009 Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling Report,
included as a component of Appendix B. Groundwater elevations were not calculated for grab
groundwater samples collected during soil and groundwater investigations.
10. Provide tabulated results of all sample analyses, including the sampling method and
detection limits. Analytical results must include TPH and BTEX constituents, lead,
MTBE,EtBE, TBA,ETBE,DIPS, TAME, ethanol,methanol, ethylene dibromide,
1,2-dichloroethane, and other constituents as indicated in Table#2 above. Provide any
WET or TCLP results.
Soil and groundwater analytical results for TPH as crude oil(TPHc),TPH as gasoline(TPHg),
TPHd, BTEX,methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),PAHs, general mineral analyses, and fuel-
fingerprint results are provided in the reports included as Appendix B. Tables and figures from
previous reports are included as Appendix C. Tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), ethyl tertiary butyl
ether(ETBE), diisopropyl ether(DIPE), tert-Amyl methyl ether(TAME), ethanol,methanol,
ethylene dibromide, and 1,2-dichloroethane are not considered COPCs and were therefore not
analyzed. Although not considered a COPC, lead was analyzed during an environmental
assessment by ERM-West(ERM-West, 1995; Appendix B.1)and the excavation of a former
burn pit by WHF(WHF, 1996; Appendix BA).
Soluble threshold limit concentration metals analysis was performed on a composite soil sample
collected by WHF during the excavation of the former burn pit. Toxicity characteristic leaching
procedure(TCLP) tests have not been performed on soil samples.
11.Discuss concentration and mass changes over time, and current concentrations of
contaminants remaining in groundwater at the site.
Groundwater monitoring was conducted at the Site between 1996 and 2009. Monitoring wells
MW-1 and MW-2, located within the Area 2 and Area 3 hydrocarbon-affected plumes,
respectively, were rarely sampled due to the presence of SPO. MW-3, located between affected
soil plume Areas 1 and 2, had detections of TPHd ranging from<50 µg/L to 6,700 gg/L;
fluctuations in TPHd concentrations appear to correlate to changes in groundwater elevation.
MW-4 and MW-5, located up gradient(southwest) and down gradient(northeast),respectively,
of hydrocarbon-affected groundwater did not have any detections of TPHd or PAHs above ESLs.
