The Workplan proposes collecting additional data regarding the crude oil
pollution at the Roberts property at 35500 Welty Road in Vernalis.
The Workplan summarizes the results of a data review and proposes six borings and two contingent
boring locations to collect soil and groundwater samples to delineate the lateral and vertical extent of
petroleum hydrocarbons downgradient of the site monitoring wells.
During field work, the findings should be evaluated to determine if one or more of the borings should be
converted to monitoring wells for future groundwater sampling. In accordance with ChevronTexaco's
draft consistent technical approach (CTA), long term quarterly groundwater monitoring may be needed
to confirm that concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon are gradually decreasing as the mass is depleted
over time.
We concur with the installation of the borings and collection of samples at the locations proposed in the
13 February 2003 Workplan. Please notify Regional Board staff at least 48 hours prior to initiating the
field activities.
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 A
Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
