Scott Mansholt
ChevronTexaco
Chevron Environmental Management Company
P.O. Box 6012
San Ramon, CA 94583
REVIEW OF WORK PLAN - ARCOS PROPERTY/FORMER VERNALIS PUMP STATION,
VERNALIS, SAN JOAQUIN AND STANISLAUS COUNTIES
We have reviewed the referenced property Work Plan, dated 15 October 2003, for the ChevronTexaco Old
Valley Pipeline (OVP) project at the Arcos Property located near Vernalis. The Arcos property occupies
the southern portion of the former Vernalis Pump Station. The northern portion, formerly called the
Roberts property, has been sold and will be referred to as the Bellini property.
You have proposed the following tasks for the Arcos investigation:
• Conduct a detailed historical site evaluation to identify areas of potential environmental concern based
on the operational facilities associated with the former OVP pump station. According to the Work
Plan, a portion of the research and/or preliminary historical investigation was recently completed or is
being conducted at this time.
• Conduct a preliminary soil and groundwater investigation by advancing 12 exploratory borings located
near areas of potential concern identified during the historical evaluation described above.
Approximately 24 representative soil samples and six groundwater samples will be submitted for
analysis.
• We previously granted an extension for ChevronTexaco to submit the final investigative report for
both the Bellini and Arcos properties by mid-January 2004.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Cc1 Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real. Every Californian needs to take immediate action to reduce energy consumption. For a list of simple ways you
can reduce demand and cut your energy costs, see our Web-site at http://www.swrcb.ca.gov/rwgcb5
