The survey was conducted for Geomatrix
' Consultants(Geomatrix)on September 16 and 17,2003 byNORCAL Geophysicist,Dan Jones and
Geophysical Technician,Travis Black. Geomatrix personnel(Mr.Matt Goertz)provided initial site
t ' orientation and pertinent background information.
IPURPOSE
Ig n The subject site formerly served as a petroleum pumping station. The majority of the facilities have
been removed, with only several building foundations remaining. It is our understanding that
Geoinatrix is interested in determining the location of utilities on the premises that maybe associated
with the former pumping station and therefore potentially contain petroleum product. The purpose
of the geophysical investigation is to obtain subsurface data that will aid in determining where
underground pipelines exist.
SITE DESCRIPTION AND AREA OF INVESTIGATION
The site currently serves as a makeshift storage area for trailers, storage containers, and
miscellaneous debris. It is located approximately 300 feet east of Welty Road and 150 feet
southwest of Highway 33 in Vemalis, California (Geophysical Survey Map, Plate 1). The
' Stanislaus-San Joaquin County line trends southwestinortheast through the site(not shown). The
investigation area as designated by Geomatrix has maximum dimensions of approximately.500 feet
east-west by 600 feet north-south. This area was chosen to generally encompass the former facilities
associated with the pumping station,as approximated from an old schematic reviewedby Geomatrix.
'< The southern and northeastern sides of the area are delineated(in parts)by barbed wire fences. A
four-foot tall soil berm separates the northwestem-most comer of the site from the remainder of the
i survey area. This corner section is generally clear of above ground features, aside from a southwest-
'- northeast trending dirt road and several monitoring wells. Within approximately 180 feet southeast
of the soil berm, there are concrete foundations of at least four buildings nestled among a grass-
covered"island,"a large debris pile, a large sand pile, smaller debris piles, several trucks/trailers,
1350 INDUSTRIAL AVENUE, SUITE A • PETALUMA.
