Former Vernalis Pump Station -6 - 19 March 2004
Bellini and Arcos Properties
San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties
containing visually impacted soil. TPH-d was not detected in the remaining three samples; BTEX and
PAH compounds were ND in the eight grab samples.
A groundwater sample was collected from the domestic well and submitted for analysis. TPH-g, TPH-d,
VOCs, PAHs, iron, and manganese were not detected; chloride, nitrates, sulfate, and TDS detected were
less than the drinking water standards.
Based on the analytical results, groundwater has not been adequately delineated on the Arcos property.
CONCLUSIONS
Soil on the Bellini and Arcos properties has been impacted by concentrations of TPH compounds,
relatively low concentrations of BTEX, and PAH compounds. The impacted areas are in close proximity
to the former pump house, boiler house, heater house and the OVP.
The vertical extent of impacted soil, on both properties has been adequately delineated. However, the
lateral extent of impacted soil has not been adequately delineated on either property and additional
characterization is needed.
The vertical extent of impacted groundwater has been adequately delineated. However, the lateral extent
of affected groundwater has not been adequately defined on either site or downgradient (offsite) of the
Bellini property. Additional onsite and offsite groundwater sampling is needed before a determination
can be made regarding impacts downgradient of the Arcos site.
Shallow soil samples did not contain hazardous levels of Title 22 metals, and none exceeded their
respective US EPA PRGs for residential or industrial soils.
A plan and time schedule needs to be submitted for an investigation to address additional lateral soil and
groundwater delineation (onsite and offsite) for both properties.
