Mr. M. Scott Mansholt—CEMC
Second Quarter 2007 Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling Report July 26, 2007
US Can-Welty Road Page 5 of 6
Based on the above conclusions, SAIC recommends the following:
• Discontinue collecting groundwater samples from MW-5 since TPHd and PAHs have never been
detected above ESLs or WQOs in this well.
• Replace the oleophilic socks in wells MW-I and MW-2 on an annual basis (first quarter) rather
than quarterly as these wells contain only a sheen of petroleum hydrocarbons that is not
measurable with an oil/water interface probe and a total of only 0.34 gallon of SPO has been
removed from these wells.
• Discontinue collecting groundwater samples from WFSMW-1 as the fuel-fingerprint analyses
from the samples collected during the first and second quarters of 2007 showed the petroleum
hydrocarbons detected were in the gasoline range.
SAIC is preparing a work plan to destroy wells MW-3 and MW-4 because the water volumes in these
wells are consistently insufficient for adequate sample collection. In addition, SAIC proposes to advance
soil borings at the site to collect soil and groundwater samples to further define the extent of petroleum
hydrocarbons in the soil and groundwater. The work plan for additional site characterization and well
destruction will be submitted during the third quarter of 2007.
CLOSING
If you have any questions regarding this report, please call Tom Burns at (916) 979-3748.
Sincerely,
SCIENCE APPLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION
Thomas Hope 4Bums-,
Project Scientist Senior Project Manager
C)''
Enclosures:
Figure 1: Vicinity Map `x 853 Q
Figure 2: Site Map
Figure 3: Potentiometric Surface Map—Second Quarter 2007 q F
Figure 4: Petroleum Distribution in Groundwater— Second Quarter 2007 s1 TF 0 f C
Table 1: Groundwater Elevation Data and SPO Thickness Measurements
Table 2: Groundwater Chemical Analytical Results—TPHd, BTEX, and MTBE
Table 3: Groundwater Chemical Analytical Results—PAHs
Attachment A: Field Data Sheets
Attachment B: Data Usability Summary, Laboratory Chemical Analytical Report, and Fuel-Fingerprint
Report
