ATTACHMENT B:
DATA USABILITY SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
SAIC evaluated the analytical data for the following groundwater and water-matrix quality control
samples collected on January 29,2008, at 35275 Welty Road in Vernalis, California:
• QA-Bailer-R-080129 (equipment rinsate blank)
• MW-4-W-080129
• MW-3-W-080129
• MW-3-WD-080129
Lancaster Laboratories, Inc.performed all the analyses on the samples. All samples were analyzed for
the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel-range organics (TPHd), carbon range CIO-C25,
by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)Method SW801513; a silica gel clean-up
procedure based on EPA Method SW3630 was also performed on samples with TPHd detections
to remove non-target biogenic compounds;
• Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)by EPA Method SW8270C with selective ion
monitoring(SW8270C-SIM).
The data was evaluated in general conformance to the requirements of project objectives specified in the
following documents:
• Quality Assurance and Quality Control: Sample Collection, Handling, and Analysis Guidelines;
ChevronTexaco Historical Pipeline Portfolio Sites, California,April 2007;
• SAIC Technical Procedure TP-DM-300-7,Data Validation; and
• SAIC Technical Procedure TP-DM-300-14,Evaluation of Field and Analytical Data.
INTENDED USES OF THE DATA
Laboratory data are being used for site evaluation and decision making for petroleum releases attributed
to Chevron. The data generated will be compared to Regional Water Quality Control Board water-quality
objectives and may be used for risk assessment purposes.
DATA QUALITY CONTROL(QC) OBJECTIVES
The SAIC evaluated project analytical data according to the following parameters in order to determine
their usability:
• Precision
• Accuracy
• Representativeness
• Completeness
• Comparability
DATA USABILITY SUMMARY
The following sections summarize the findings of the data evaluation process. The following data
validation qualifiers were used in the data evaluation:
ualifier Description
E Indicates the reported value is estimated due to associated QC results.
J Indicates the reported value is an estimated concentration detected
