measures could include, but are not limited to, 1) preservation in place, <br />2) incorporation of change in design to ensure no further disturbance <br />of encountered resources, or 3) excavation, recovery, and curation by <br />qualified professionals. The County Community Development <br />Department shall be notified, and the project developer shall be <br />responsible for retaining qualified professionals, implementing <br />recommended mitigation measures, and documenting mitigation <br />efforts in a written report to the Community Development Department, <br />consistent with the requirements of the CEQA Guidelines. <br />Significance After Miti ag tion: Less than significant <br />c) Human Burials. <br />No evidence of any human burials was found in the record search or field survey ofon the <br />project site. As with archaeological resources, it is not expected that any human burials <br />would be uncovered by construction on the project site, given past disturbance. However, <br />it is conceivable that excavation associated with the project could uncover a previously <br />unknown burial. <br />CEQA Guidelines Section 15064.5(e) describes the procedure to be followed when <br />human remains are uncovered in a location outside a dedicated cemetery. Compliance <br />with CEQA Guidelines Section 15064.5(e), which is required in the mitigation measure <br />below, would ensure that any human remains and associated grave goods encountered <br />during project construction would be treated with appropriate dignity. With <br />implementation of the mitigation measure, project impacts on human remains would be <br />less than significant. <br />Level of Significance: Potentially significant <br />Mitiaation Measures: <br />CULT -2: In accordance with CEQA Guidelines Section 15064.5(e) and with <br />California Health and Safety Code Section 7050.5, if human remains <br />are uncovered during project construction, then all work in the vicinity <br />of the find shall be halted, and the County Coroner shall be notified to <br />determine if an investigation of the death is required. If it is <br />determined that the remains are Native American in origin, then the <br />County Coroner shall contact the Native American Heritage <br />Commission within 24 hours. The Native American Heritage <br />Commission shall identify the Most Likely Descendants of the <br />deceased Native American, and the Most Likely Descendants may <br />make recommendations on the disposition of the remains and any <br />associated grave goods with appropriate dignity.
