Phase IIA Environmental Site Assessment Page 7
Former Karlson Trucking Property
Project No. 191.2
October 28, 1998
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (EPA Method 8015(m)).
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene and Xylene (BTEX by EPA method 8020).
• Halogenated Volatile organics by EPA method 8010
• Metals (Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, Nickel and Zinc-EPA Method 6010).
Water Samples:
SB-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TEPH) by EPA method
8015(m)/3510 (water),
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline by EPA method 8015(m), and
• Benzene, Toluene. Ethylbenzene and Xylene (BTEX) by EPA method
602(water)
Additionally, the groundwater sample collected from beneath the drainage
pond was also analyzed for:
• Halogenated Volatile organics by EPA method 601(water), and
• Metals (Cadmium, Chromium, Nickel, Lead and Zinc).
A table with analytical results is attached (Table 1). In summary, petroleum
hydrocarbons were detected in the some of the soil and the water sample(s),
including the soil and groundwater samples from:
• Soil and groundwater samples collected from SB-4, SB-5, SB-6 & SB-7. The
contaminant is characterized as a dielectric oil. Very low levels (Less than 1
gg/L) of volatile organics (BTEX) were present in the groundwater samples.
• A trace amount of Xylene (0.4 gg/L) was also detected in the groundwater
sample collected from SB-1.
• Composite soil samples from the soil stockpile area contained low levels of oil
range petroleum hydrocarbons (SP-1-10; 30 mg/Kg, SP-11-20; 89 mg/Kg),
• A composite soil sample from the soil stockpile area contained low levels of oil
range petroleum hydrocarbons (PB-1@2'-PB-10@2'; 20 mg/Kg).
• Detectable metals were present in the groundwater sample collected from
beneath the seepage pit. This included Chromium at 2.1 mg/1, Lead at 1.5
mg/L, Nickel at 2.2 mg/L and Zinc at 5.5 mg/L.
• Metals in the composite samples from the pole barn and soil stockpile were at
non-detect or background levels.
• Halogenated volatile organics were at non detect levels in the soil sample
collected from HB-1 and in the water sample collected from SB-7-
Given the fact that samples from SB-4, SB-5 & SB-6 contained detectable levels
of dielectric oil, the soil sample from the 14-16 foot interval was also analyzed for
PCB's. No PCB's were detected in the soil sample analyzed (SB-6).
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc. Phone (209) 569-0293
Modesto, CA 95356 Fax (209) 569-0295
