We find that the
report is complete as shown on the attached Monitoring Report Compliance Checklist. In summary, the
report states that there are slight upward trends for Cl,Na, TDS &EC in MW-2 and Ba in MW-5.
Constituents of concern are greater than background in MW-1RD,MW-2, -3, -5, -6, -9 and—11. Mann-
Kendall trend analysis shows increasing trends in MW-2 and MW-5. The report states, "As the source
has been removed, concentrations appear to be gradually decreasing over time due to dilution and
groundwater recharge. The concentrations of elevated inorganics are expected to continue to decline
over time."
We note your request to revise Monitoring and Reporting Program Order No. 96-176 in order to change
semi-annual monitoring to be reduced to annual monitoring with an April sampling event. Because of
the increasing trends in MW-2 and MW-5,we recommend further semi-annual sampling until all
concentrations of constituents of concern show a decreasing trend over time, at a minimum.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 255-3137 or schwabk@rb5s.swrcb.ca.gov.
KIM A.
