Box 690757
Stockton, CA 95269
PRELIMINARY SITE CHARACTERIZATION WORK PLAN FOR FORMER KARLSON
TRUCKING FACILITY, 9909 EAST WOODWARD AVENUE, MANTECA, SAN JOAQUIN
COUNTY
I have reviewed the 28 January 1999 Preliminary Site Characterization Work Plan for Former Karlson
Trucking Facility. I hereby approve the installation and analysis of 30 soil gas survey points. Upon
completion of this phase of work, please submit a short letter report containing the results of the soil gas
samples and the proposed locations for the monitoring wells. The monitoring well placement needs to
determine the lateral and vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the soil and
groundwater. It is likely that more than one well will be needed to define the lateral and vertical extent
of the metal constituents in the soil and groundwater near SB7.
The work plan does not present a time frame to complete the site assessment. Therefore by 3 March
1999, provide a schedule to conduct the field work and to submit the short letter report. Please inform
me at least 72 hours in advance of the field work so I may be present to observe procedures or take split
samples.
If you have any questions, you may call me at (916) 255-3076.
KRISTEN ROCHA
Site Cleanup Unit
cc: Mr. Stephen M.
