GEO-PHASE
ENVIRONMENTAL -
February 15, 2000
Mr. Philip Isorena
California State Regional Water
Quality Control Board-Central Valley Region
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098
Re: Letter Report Discussing Geo-Probe Installation Results
9909 East Woodward Avenue,Manteca CA
Dear Mr. Isorena:
Five Geo-Probe soil borings were installed around the suspected point of release of petroleum
hydrocarbons to further characterize the contaminant plume at the subject site. This letter
report discusses the data collected and the proposed monitoring well locations.
Geo-Probe Soil boring Installation & Sample Collection
On January 26, 2000, Geo-Phase Environmental Inc. personnel mobilized to the site for the
purpose of installing five Geo-Probe soil borings. The following discusses the Geo-Probe soil
boring installation along with sample collection.
Geo-Phase Environmental Inc. installed a group of four Geo-Probe soil borings into
groundwater to a depth of 20 feet below grade and one boring to 28 feet below grade. It is
assumed that groundwater was encountered at ±9-11 feet below grade. These borings were
located as follows:
• Two located northwest of MW-4 (SB-8 & 9) to determine the distal extent of the
groundwater plume,
• Two located upgradient of the suspected point of release southwest of MW-2 (SB-11 &
12),
• One adjacent to MW-4 (SB-10) to determine the vertical extent of groundwater
contamination. This boring was completed to a depth of 28 feet below grade, with
groundwater samples collected at 14, 19, 24 and 28 feet below grade. A final soil sample
was not collected due to the indurated nature of the sediments encountered at that
interval.
The Geo-Probe soil borings were drilled using 1.5" outside diameter Geo-Probe drilling
equipment owned and operated by V & W Drilling (C-57 License #720904). Upon reaching
total depth in each boring and collecting a final soil and groundwater sample, each boring was
filled to grade with neat cement.
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
