(AGE). The Work Plan proposes
additional soil and groundwater investigations, and a pilot study that will evaluate three remedial
alternatives: groundwater extraction, soil vapor extraction, and natural attenuation. The Work Plan
describes the drilling, sampling, and installation of soil borings, groundwater monitoring wells, one
groundwater extraction well, and four(or five) soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells and two SVE test
observation wells.
All samples (water, soil vapor, and soil) will be analyzed for:
• total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as diesel (TPH-D), gasoline (TPH-G), Stoddard Solvent
(TPH-SS), and motor oil (TPH-MO) by EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (B-T-E-X) by EPA Method 8020, and
• volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including oxygenates by EPA Method 8260.
The Work Plan also states groundwater will be analyzed for unspecified physicochemical or bio-
enumeration constituents by unspecified EPA or ASTM methods.
Previous soil concentration results include 2300 mg/kg (TPH-G), 2000 mg/kg (TPH-D), 2300 mg/kg
(TPH-SS) and methanol (VOCs) at 310 mg/kg. Previous groundwater results include 120,000 gg/L
(TPH-G), 330 gg/L(TPH-D), 120,000 gg/L (TPH-Stoddard Solvent), 96 gg/L—72 gg/L— 1100 gg/L-
760 gg/L (B-T-E-X, respectively).
Tetrachloroethene (PCE) was detected in soil at a concentration of 68 gg/kg during a previous
investigation. PCE was not detected in groundwater, although groundwater analysis detected its
daughter product 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), at 25 gg/L.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Q*Recycled Paper
