Drilling activities will be observed by an experienced
geologist under the direction of a California Professional Geologist.
2.1.1 Pre-Drilling Permits
Prior to drilling, well drilling permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department, and a check for any existing underground utilities shall be
conducted at the drill location.
2.1.2 Traffic Plan
No Traffic Plans are expected to be necessary for this project, However, if any permits are
necessary they will be obtained and/or submitted to the County of San Joaquin prior to the
commencement of work. All traffic plans will be incompliance with the California Department of
Transportation standards and regulations.
2.1.3 Safety Plan
A "tailgate safety meeting" will be conducted prior to the start of work to inform the well
installation crew of anticipated hazards and the emergency action plan for the site. On-site
workers will have Level D personal protection equipment available to them. All drilling, well
construction, and sampling activities will be conducted using modified Level D personal
protection as appropriate for the activities being conducted. An example of Level D personal
protective equipment to be used at the site includes hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots,
earplugs, disposable rubber gloves, and disposable overalls. In the event that an injury occurs
to any or all of the monitoring well installation team, they could be transported to the nearest
hospital that provides emergency room services (Kaiser Medical Center, 1777 W Yosemite Ave,
Manteca, Ca, 95337, 209-825-3700). Emergency 911 services are also available in the area.
2.2 Drilling Equipment and Techniques
2.2.1 Borehole Installation
Boreholes are to be advanced to a depth of 30 feet below ground surface using 8-inch nominal
diameter hollow stem augers. Soil samples will be logged at five foot intervals via a split-spoon
sampler using California modified Standard Penetration Test. No soil samples are to be
submitted for laboratory analysis. All cuttings will be disposed of by spreading onsite, as
directed by City of Manteca Department of Public Works (City). The on-site geologist shall log
and describe soil samples consistent with the Unified Soils Classification System, observe drilling
procedures, watch for indications of groundwater during drilling, direct well construction
activities, record materials used, and act as safety officer.
A
902 Industrial Way • Lodi, CA 95240 • 209.367.3701 • Fax 209.369.4228 ©2008 Neil O.
