AdvancedGeo
09 January 2019 Environmental
AGE Project No. 99-0559 G
Upon achieving a successful leak test, the purge canister valve will be opened for a
calculated period to allow for a minimum of three calculated volumes of air to be purged.
The purge canister vacuum gauge will be monitored to ensure a proper decrease of
vacuum ensuring flow and purging. The purge volume will be determined by calculating
the internal volume of the tubing and open borehole area.
Upon achieving the targeted purge volume, the purge canister valve will be closed, and
the sample canister valve will be opened. The initial pressure and time will be recorded.
Upon reaching at least -2 in Hg or less, the sample canister valve will be closed, and
final pressure and time recorded. The sampling port on the sampling canister will be
capped with a brass end-cap.
The samples will be transported under chain-of-custody procedure to an ELAP-certified
laboratory. Each sample canister will be labeled with sample designation, time, date and
sampler's initials and analyzed for the constituents listed in Section 2.3. Following
sample collection, the total VOC concentration in the wells will be measured using a PID
(Mini Rae 3000).
3.5. BORING ABANDONMENT
All soil borings not completed as wells will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical
migration of potential contaminants. The soil borings will be abandoned by backfilling
with Portland type II cement grout from the total depth to surface grade. The top three to
six inches of the boring abandonments will be completed flush to surface grade with
concrete. The EHD will be notified for grout inspection at least 72 hours prior to
conducting grouting procedures.
3.6. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION/WASTE MANAGEMENT
All sampling tools used for sample collection, except for disposable bailers, will be
thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. All
down-hole drilling equipment will be washed prior to starting each boring. Any soil
cuttings generated during drilling and/or rinseate generated during drilling will be
containerized in properly labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums and stored on-site in
an area generally lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based
on results of soil analysis.
