Appendix B AdvancedGeo
AGE Project No. 99-0559 Environmental
Page 5 of 12G
the SVE unit began to operate in catalytic mode. A total of 28,986 Ibs of petroleum
hydrocarbons was removed from the site since the initiation of SVE operation (December
2006). Based December 2009 date, the SVE extraction system has removed at total of
32,814 Ibs or a volume of 5,250 gallons of petroleum.
ON-SITE CPT LITHOLOGIC INVESTIGATION: APRIL 2001
Three soil borings (CPT-1, CPT-2 and CPT-3) were advanced on-site utilizing CPT
technology to model the geological and hydrogeological framework and to assess the
vertical extent of dissolved petroleum-hydrocarbons beneath the site. Lithologic data was
collected from an initial CPT soil boring in each locality, a twin boring was then advanced
immediately adjacent to the initial CPT soil boring to collect soil and grab groundwater
samples from selected depths. Soil borings CPT-1, CPT-2 and CPT-3 were advanced
vertically to maximum depths of approximately 155 feet below surface grade (bsg), 162
feet bsg and 158 feet bsg, respectively. CPT1 was advanced at the western edge of the
site, in the down-gradient direction from the UST area; CPT2 was advanced adjacent to
the UST release, within the core area of the hydrocarbon-impacted vadose soil; and CPT3
was advanced along the southern edge of the site, at the furthest southern point on the
site from the UST release, in a cross-gradient location. A site plan depicting boring
locations is presented in Figure 2.
Groundwater sample was collected from the CPT borings at the following intervals:
• CPT-1 was sampled at 60 feet (HU2), 100 feet (HU4), 130 feet bsg (HU5U) and
150 feet bsg (HU5L);
• CPT-2 was sampled at 100 feet (HU4), 130 feet (HU5U) and 150 feet bsg (HU5L)
and
• CPT-3 was sampled at 60 feet (HU2), 100 feet (HU4), 130 feet bsg (HU5U) and
150 feet bsg (HU5L)
The CPT drill rig, equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods fitted with a 1.25-inch
diameter piston soil sampling assembly loaded with a pre-cleaned brass sleeve, was used
to collect soil samples from 80 feet bsg, 110 feet bsg and 135 feet bsg in the twin of boring
CPT-2.
The sample collected from 80 feet (CPT2-80 - HU3) contained TPH-g at 1,500 milligram
per kilogram (mg/kg); BTEX compounds were detected in at concentrations as high as
210 mg/kg total xylene (benzene was at 25 mg/kg). MTBE was detected at a
concentration of 820 micrograms per kilogram (pg/kg). The sample collected from 110
feet (CPT2-110 - upper HU5) contained TPH-g at 4.9 mg/kg; BTEX compounds were
detected in at concentrations as high as 0.53 mg/kg total toluene (benzene was at 0.18
mg/kg). MTBE was detected at a concentration of 30 pg/kg. The sample collected from
135 feet (CPT2-135 - middle HU5) contained TPH-g at 2.4 mg/kg; BTEX compounds
