ON-SITE CONTROL <br />The Site Safety Officer will coordinate site access control and security. An exclusion zone <br />will be established approximately 10 feet around excavation location work areas. No <br />unauthorized person shall be allowed within this exclusion area. <br />4.0. HAZARD EVALUATION <br />The following substance(s) or hazards are known or suspected to be on site. <br />SUBSTANCES INVOLVED: CONCENTRATIONS: <br />Benzene Up to 46 mg/kg <br />Toluene Up to 160 mg/kg <br />Ethyl-benzene Up to 620 mg/kg <br />Total xylenes Up to 3,600 mg/kg <br />MTBE Not analyzed <br />TPH Up to 23,000 mg/kg <br />The primary hazards of each are identified as follows: <br />1. Hydrocarbon fuels - Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong <br />aromatic petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low <br />solubility in water. Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended <br />exposure limits can cause mild eye, nose, and throat irritation and can produce a <br />narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Symptoms of exposure at these <br />concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, and loss of <br />coordination. Certain components of gasoline (BTEX etc.) are known or <br />suspected carcinogens. <br />The additional potential hazards include: Slip-trip-fall hazards, noise, heavy equipment <br />(i.e., drill rig), vibration hazards, traffic hazards, etc. <br />Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
