ON-SITE CONTROL <br />The Site Safety Officer will coordinate site access control and security. An exclusion zone <br />will be established approximately 5-10 feet around the work areas. No unauthorized <br />person shall be allowed within this exclusion area. <br />4.0. HAZARD EVALUATION <br />The following substance(s) or hazards are known or suspected to be on site. <br />SUBSTANCES INVOLVED: CONCENTRATIONS: <br />TPH-g 610 mg/kg /1,300 ughI <br />Benzene 0.217 mg/kg / 17 ug/I <br />Toluene 1.54 mg/kg <br />Ethylbenzene 38.2 mg/kg <br />Xylenes 108 mg/kg <br />Benzene 0.217 mg/kg <br />The primary hazards of each are identified as follows: <br />Hydrocarbon fuels — Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic <br />petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. <br />Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild <br />eye, nose, and throat irritations and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous <br />system. Symptoms of exposure at those concentrations included headache, nausea, <br />drowsiness, dizziness, and loss of coordination. Certain components of gasoline (BTEX <br />etc.) are known or suspected carcinogens. <br />The additional potential hazards include: Slip-trip-fall hazards, noise, heavy equipment <br />(i.e., drill rig), vibration hazards, traffic hazards, etc. <br />5.0. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br />Based on evaluation of potential hazards, the following levels of personal protection have <br />been designated for the applicable work areas or task:
