1.5 Ilazard Assessment <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION <br />Traffic <br />Set up traffic cones or position vehicles to direct traffic away from work <br />zone. Where high-visible clothing. Work in street will require professional <br />traffic control <br />Trips and Falls Survey work are and foot traffic areas to clear any movable objects from <br />being tripping hazards. Ensure secure footing on walking surfaces <br />Excavations <br />No entry into any excavations without supervisor approval. Excavations <br />greater than four feet require method of egress (ladder) and supervision <br />above. <br />Inspect walls of trenches for possible caving. <br />Monitor for potential explosive gases or vapor hazards <br />Chemical Exposure <br />Where personal protective equipment, including Level D, boots, long <br />sleeve shirt, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection. Monitor breathing <br />space for potential VOCs. Be prepared to upgrade to Level C, respirator, <br />should the breathing space be affected. <br />Avoid wind-blown dust by positioning upwind of work zone if possible. <br />Where nitrile gloves to remove skin exposure to contaminated soil. <br />Severe Weather <br />Monitor for the risk of lightning <br />Cold wet weather may expose workers to difficult work conditions, poor <br />sight, hazardous conditions. <br />Hot weather and sun exposure can place workers in extreme temperatures <br />and stress. <br />Overhead Hazards/Subsurface <br />Hazards <br />Evaluate work area and equipment for risk of contact with power poles, <br />overhead lines. <br />Clear subsurface utilities.
