16 June 2016
AGE Project No. 95-0167
Page 2 of 5
2.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK PREPARATIONS
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (EHD). In addition, a site specific health and safety
plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance
Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
1985). Prior to mobilization, each soil boring will be clearly marked and a utility clearance
obtained through Underground Service Alert. The EHD will be contacted at least 48 hours
prior to conducting any field work.
2.2. SOIL BORING AND SOIL-VAPOR SAMPLING
AGE proposes to advance a total of two (2) soil borings utilizing a 3-inch diameter hand
auger to install soil-vapor wells and collect soil-vapor samples at the site (Figure 2). A
description of proposed soil boring locations, sampling and technical justification are
provided below:
One (1) soil boring will be advanced to a total depth of 5.5 feet below surface grade
(bsg) adjacent to the former fuel dispenser and in the area of the soil borings with
the historically highest petroleum hydrocarbon impact to shallow soil (dispenser
sample P-1, soil borings P3, P7, and VW-1; Table 1) to evaluate the potential threat
for vapor intrusion to the site building; and
One (1) soil boring will be advanced to a total depth of 5.5 feet bsg approximately
five feet west of the former UST area to evaluate the potential threat for vapor
intrusion to the site building.
2.3. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Soil-vapor sample will be analyzed by a California Department of Public Health (CDPH)-
certified laboratory for the following constituents:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with
EPA Method TO-15;
Volatile organic compounds including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total
xylenes (BTEX), and naphthalene in accordance with EPA Method TO-15;
Fuel additives including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-butyl alcohol
(TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl
methyl ether (TAME) ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA)
in accordance with EPA Method TO-15;
Advanced GeoEnvironmental Inc.
