Health and Safety Plan <br />705 Carlton Avenue, Stockton, CA <br />EFI Global Project No. 9836003958 <br />9.3 SUPPORT ZONE <br />The Support Zone (SZ) is used for administrative and other support functions that are needed to keep work in <br />the EZ and the CRZ running smoothly. Any function that need not or cannot be performed in a hazardous o r <br />potentially hazardous area is performed in the SZ. Support zone activities may include, but not be limited to, <br />work supervision, recordkeeping, public interf ace, site se curity, sam ple shipment, subcontractor <br />coordination, and regulatory liaison. <br />Workers may wear normal work cl othes within this zone. Any potent ially contaminated clothing , <br />equipment, and sam pies must remain in the CRZ until they are either (1) decontam Mated, or (2) properly <br />secured for o ff-site transportation (for analy sis or dis posal). All emergency telephone numbers, evaluati on <br />route maps, and vehicle keys will be kept in the SZ. <br />10.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br />Personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be sel ected and used to protect em ployees from hazards and <br />potential hazards they are likely to encounter as id entitled during the site ch aracterization and associat ed <br />activities. T he level of P PE protection will be incr eased should additional i nformation or site conditions <br />indicate that increased protection is necessary to reduce worker exposure below 10 ppm for volatile <br />compounds. The level of PPE m ay be upgraded, but m ay not be reduced, by the site Health and Safe ty <br />Officer. PPE is ranked from Level D (lowest level of protection) to Level A (greatest level of protection). <br />The designated PPE for all personnel in the work area is LEVEL D but can be upgraded as necessary <br />10.1 LEVEL A <br />Level A PPE consists of the following equipment: <br />A fully encapsulating, chem ically protecting, pos itive pressure suit with full face piece an d self- <br />contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or positiv e pressure, supplied-air respirator with escap e <br />SCBA approved by NIOSH; <br />Disposable outer suit (may be optional depending upon suit construction); <br />Reflective safety vest; <br />Inner and outer chemical resistant gloves; <br />Chemical resistant boots with steel toe and shank; and <br />Hard hat, and optional long underwear, coolant vest, and coveralls. <br />10.2 LEVEL B <br />Level B PPE consists of the following equipment: <br />Positive pressure, full face piece SCBA or M OSH approved, full face, positive pressure, supplied- <br />air respirator; <br />Hooded, chemical resistant, disposable coveralls and boot covers; <br />Reflective safety vest; <br />Inner and outer chemical resistant gloves; <br />Chemical resistant boots with steel toe and shank; and <br />Hard hat, face shield, coveralls and optional coolant vest and long underwear if applicable. <br />EFI Global <br />Engineenng FUe <br />FrrvirtwenerdalSorVirps Page 8 of 19
