Safety and Health Plan
Tracy Ridge Tracy, California
March 27, 2019 Terracon Project No. NA187052.1 lierracon
Xylene is a mild eye and mucous membrane irritant, primary skin irritant and a central nervous
system depressant. Ingestion causes severe gastrointestinal upset and creates an aspiration
hazard. Chronic inhalation results in symptoms that resemble acute poisoning, but are more
severe systemically.
TETRACHLOROETHYLENE (PCE)
Permissible Exposure Limit
25 ppm ACGIH TLV
PCE is irritating to the respiratory tract, eyes, and kidneys, and can cause impaired cognitive and
motor function performance. Absorption of PCE can cause long term health effects including
cancer and reproductive abnormalities.
TRICHLOROETHYLENE (T_C .E)
Permissible Exposure Limit
10 ppm ACGIH TLV
TOE is irritating to the respiratory tract, eyes, and kidneys, and can cause impaired cognitive and
motor function performance. Absorption of TOE can cause long term health effects including
cancer and reproductive abnormalities.
PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES, PAHs, AND METALS
Due to the unknown nature and concentrations of the above potential contaminants, Terracon
staff will follow standard safety procedures and wear protective gloves while handling all soils. A
RID will be regularly used to screen soil and to monitor potential breathing zone hazards. All field
staff will be reminded to thoroughly wash their hands before eating to reduce the chance of
chemical exposure.
7.0 Drilling Safety Precautions
Project activities will consist of drilling 5 soil borings to 10 feet below grade surface (bgs), 14 soil
borings to 5 feet bgs, two borings to 2 feet bgs, and two surface soil samples on portions of the
site. The borings will be advanced using a track-mounted, direct push drill rig to a depth of 2, 5,
and 10 feet bgs. If groundwater is encountered, samples will be collected.
The personal protective equipment and direct-reading air monitoring requirements specified
below are designed to prevent personnel exposure to contamination in excess of permissible
exposure limits. Personnel must remain aware of the potential for fire if soils saturated with
flammable liquids, such as gasoline, are encountered.
8.0 Site Physical Hazards/Precautions
8
