STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL <br />HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENT REPORT <br />CHP 407E <br />Page 3 <br />SEQUENCE OF EVENTS: <br />On August 14, 2018, at approximately 0710 hours, a tractor trailer combo was westbound <br />1-580, in the #2 lane, east of Chrisman Road, approaching stop and go traffic at 55 miles <br />per hour. The driver of the tractor trailer failed to notice traffic had slowed and collided <br />with the vehicle in front of him. This collision caused the right fuel tank on the tractor to <br />rupture. The tank contained 75 gallons of diesel fuel which immediately began to spill <br />on the asphalt roadway and run onto the dirt shoulder. Tracy CHP units responded to the <br />scene for to assist with the collision and blocked roadway. The scene was declared a <br />HAZMAT by Sergeant Lecce who responded for incident command. Approximately 20 <br />gallons of diesel was spilled onto the dirt shoulder in a 10 foot circumference area. <br />Department of Transportation, Caltrans responded to the scene to assist with clean-up. <br />The material was determined to be diesel fuel by Sergeant L,ecce. All Environmental <br />Services, a Hazardous Waste Disposal Company, responded to the scene to remove and <br />dispose of the material. The scene was declared safe at 1500 hours <br />ROAD CLOSURES: <br />None required. <br />EVACUATION DETAILS: <br />None required. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the soil located south of the roadway. <br />The containment area was approximately 10 feet in circumference <br />CLEAN UP ACTIONS: <br />All Environmental Services, a Hazardous Waste Disposal Company, conducted the <br />hazardous material clean-up. A crew from All Environmental Services responded to the <br />scene and removed all the contaminated soil.
