NORTH COUNTY RECYCLING CENTER <br /> AND SANITARY LANDFILL <br /> PROPOSED PERMIT REVISION <br /> Frequently Asked Questions <br /> 1. What Permit revisions are requested? <br /> The County is requesting the following changes to the permit for this facility: <br /> • Increase the maximum permitted daily refuse weight disposal limit <br /> from 825 to 1,200 tons of refuse per day <br /> • Increase the maximum permitted number of incoming refuse-carrying <br /> vehicles from 600 vehicles to 850 vehicles per day <br /> • Increase the hours for operation of heavy equipment at the landfill <br /> - Present restriction: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. <br /> - Proposed restriction: 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM. <br /> - Use of heavy equipment would be allowed at other times if needed for <br /> environmental protection or if sound abatement features are in place. <br /> • Increase the maximum permitted landfill height <br /> - Present height: 190 feet above mean sea level (msl), approximately 65 <br /> feet high <br /> - Proposed height: 320 feet msl, approximately 200 feet high. <br /> Due to the slow fill rate, the maximum height will not be reached for <br /> approximately 40 years. <br /> • Landfill gate open hours: No change proposed <br /> - Present Hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM except posted holidays <br /> • Area of Landfill: No change proposed <br /> 2. Why is the County asking for a permit revision? <br /> This is part of long-term planning by your County. This facility provides recycling <br /> and refuse disposal for private citizens, contractors, businesses, licensed and <br /> franchise refuse collection companies in San Joaquin County.
