Koenig, Safety Officer; Margaret Parrott, Executive <br />Housekeeper. <br />Types of Medical Waste Generated: <br />BLOOD OR BODY FLUIDS - Liquid blood elements or other regulated body fluid, or <br />articles contaminated with blood or body fluids. <br />SHARPS - Actually or potentially -contaminated syringes, needles, blades, broken glass. <br />ISOLATION WASTE - Waste contaminated with excretion, exudate, or secretions from <br />humans who are isolated due to highly communicable diseases. <br />CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC WASTE - Trace amounts of chemotherapeutic waste. <br />PATHOLOGY WASTE - Recognizable human anatomical parts, human surgery specimens <br />or tissues. <br />Generator Status: <br />Dameron Hospital is registered as a large quantity generator. The estimated monthly <br />volume of medical waste generated is 20,000 pounds. <br />Dameron Hospital accepts no medical waste from any other facility. <br />See Infection Control Committee Policy/Procedure: <br />"Transport of Medical Waste Under the `Limited Quantity Hauling <br />Exemption."' <br />Medical Waste Segregation, Containment, Labeling, & Collection <br />Procedures: <br />Medical Waste <br />Medical waste (non -chemotherapeutic waste, non -pathology waste) is contained separately <br />from other wastes at the point of generation. In nonpatient care areas, solid waste is not to <br />be disposed of in medical waste containment devices. When cleaning patient care areas, <br />Housekeeping will place all medical wastes into RED biohazard bags labeled with the word <br />2 <br />
