i' <br />00ERON HOSPITAL ASSOCIATIO <br />POLICY AND PROCEDURE <br />SHARPS DISPOSAL <br />1. POLICY: <br />Sharps will be picked up by Housekeeping on a daily basis and PRN using <br />the Winfield Sharpsguard 2000 Containment System and sterilized following <br />infection waste procedure. <br />SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: <br />Sharps will be disposed of to prepare for pick-up to prevent injury to the <br />Housekeeping Personnel. <br />PURPOSE: <br />Housekeeping Aides will check modules in assigned areas daily, leaving a <br />list on cleaning carts that are full and ready for pick-up. The list will <br />be picked -up by a Supervisor who will assign a pick-up using the collection <br />cart logging all pick-ups. When the cart is full, the following procedure <br />will be completed: <br />SHARPSGARD 2000 OPERATING PROCEDURES <br />STEP #1: <br />Assemble collection cart box, insert red infectious waste bag, insert metal <br />box divider. <br />STEP #2: <br />Place box inside of collection cart making sure it is properly in place. <br />STEP #3: <br />Lock collection cart door. <br />STEP #4: <br />Using key plate, remove modules from wall and place on the receiving area of <br />the collection cart -- PUSH DOWN FIRMLY! <br />STEP #5: <br />Pull handle away from the Tnodule, releasing the full liner to drop into the <br />Collection Cart box. <br />STEP #6: <br />Remove key plate from handle assembly and push back toward the module. <br />
