Box 2009
445 N. San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201
Attn: Doug Wilson
Dear Mr. Wilson:
In response to the complaint received that infectious waste from Dameron
Hospital was not properly treated, our Sanipak Unit has been repaired and
adjusted to ensure that it is operating at factory specifications and
exceeds all parameters as required by California regulations for the
sterilization of infectious waste (please see attached document from
Sanipak, -Inc.). Biological indicator testing with Bacillus stearothermo-
hp ilus has been done twice since the repairs to further confirm the
attainment of adequate sterilization conditions. As in the past, the
biological test will be run at least monthly; it will be run a minimum of
weekly for the next two months. In addition, the Sanipak Unit will con-
tinue to be calibrated on at least an annual basis.
Please note the following urgent actions that have been implemented to
prevent future potential problems with our medical waste:
1. In order to ensure appropriate segregation of hospital waste:
a) trash (non red -bagged) shall be examined prior to place-
ment into the compactor to ensure that infectious waste
was not inadvertently placed in regular trash bags; to
facilitate this process, clear garbage bags have been
ordered and will be used as soon as available.
b) it shall be noted that all non -sharps infectious waste is
placed in red biohazard bags and subsequently placed in
autoclaveable biohazard bags; more than one red bag may
be placed in an autoclaveable bag.
c) it shall be noted that sharps containers (with biohazard
labeling) shall be placed in an autoclaveable biohazard
bag.
A NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION • 525 WEST ACACIA STREET • STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA 95203-9989 • TELEPHONE (209) 944-5550
