<6060 Stericy�le' <br />Nursing Factsheet <br />HSd Shurs Container: Sharps that do not contain any medication: <br />NO MEDICINES, CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (Narcotics), or FREE FLUIDS <br />•®• Empty syringes (oral and intravenous) <br />•®• Empty ampoules, broken capillary tubes, needle counters <br />•o• Scalpels, razor blades, broken glass, lancets, etc. <br />Blue Pharmaceutical Sharnc Container: Non-RCRA Wastes <br />Tablets — whole, broken, or partial <br />❖ Medication vials — partial <br />❖ Place in sealable bag (i.e. Ziploc) IV Bags with medicine, medicine saturated sponges, etc. <br />Any open bag or open bottle (that cannot be sealed or tied off tightly) with remaining fluid in it <br />must flLst be put into a sealable baggie. <br />Black RCRA Container (SEE REVERSE SIDE OF PAGE): <br />❖ Partial Chemotherapy vials, ampoules and syringes <br />Bulk Chemotherapy <br />• Unused RCRA Pharmaceuticals <br />Container: <br />•®• Empty vials, IV bags, etc. <br />❖ Used syringes (no medication left) <br />❖ Items in contact with chemotherapy — gowns, gloves, etc. <br />***DRAIN ISPOSAL ALLOWED' <br />Provided there is NO Pharmaceutical (RX) instilled in the IV, drain disposal is permitted in any of the <br />following solutions: <br />• Saline solution <br />❖ Dextrose solution <br />•®• Glucose solution <br />•e Electrolytes <br />Lactated Ringer <br />WITNESSED DISPOSAL — Controlled Substances <br />Controlled substances should be disposed of per current pharmacylhospitalpolicy. <br />
