The final location of the
monitoring wells will be based on results from our soil gas survey to be conducted
the week of August 8, 1988.
The wells will be situated near the fire pit in areas where high VOC levels are
expected to be found in the ground water. The wells will be. drilled by North
Valley Drilling using a hollow-stem auger drill rig. HLA's geologist will log the
soil conditions encountered, obtain soil samples for lithologic logging and field
screen soil samples for organic chemicals using an organic vapor analyzer (OVA).
Screen intervals will"be selected from lithologic logging results. The wells will be
constucted with flinch diameter PVC products and installed according to
procedures mandated by the California Regional Water Quality. Control Board
(RWQCB). Soil cuttings from the borings will be left on-site in 55 gallon drums in
an area designated by DVI personnel.
Test Pits
We plan to excavate up to 12 pits around the fire pit to help determine the extent
of soils containing VOC. These test pits will be dug to depths of approximately 8
feet and will follow soil discoloration zones, if present. We will collect soil
.samples from the bucket of the backhoe at three levels in each pit, one near the
..;,,r,;",ground surface, one-aperoximr:telyvhalf-syay,down, and one a: tctal.depth.•'x'hese-
samples will be field screened using an OVA; selected samples will be retained for
chemical analyses.
i
. 4
f
