We don't have any regulatory authority over pesticides unless they are
registered with the EPA, which we isn't this case. If the farmer is willing to take it, it seems beneficial that the fertilizer is
used rather than treated as waste.
Thanks,
Jon Brower
Agricultural Biologist/Standards Inspector
San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner's Office
2101 E. We have a fertilizer question for you.
I responded to a fertilizer spill on Jan. 12. (YaraLiva CN-9; liquid; Product Code: PB3714)
When I asked for waste determination for the rinsate generated from cleanup, the facility stated that it is not
waste. They pay a farmer to take the fertilizer/water mixture as off-spec product. They have not had the rinsate
analyzed, as the concentrations vary. From what I gathered, the farmer uses this on his soil.
Do you know if this an acceptable practice?
Thank you,
Environmental Health Specialist
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
Front Desk: (209) 468-3420
Mobile: (209) 561-8923
1
