We began excavation of the gravel yesterday and almost immediately encountered standing low-pH liquid in
the gravel pack. We halted excavation in order to quickly arrange proper handling of the liquid to be removed and also
the contaminated gravel. Both will be managed as hazardous waste.
Until the gravel is completely removed from the ring-wall foundation, we will not know the extent of contamination;
however, we believe the concrete ring and the compacted clay soil beneath the gravel pack will have prevented vertical
and/or lateral migration.
We will keep you updated as we make progress.
Aimee Burger
Plant Manager — Lathrop C.A
J.R.
