I have not abated the complaint yet. The facility completed the excavation of the
phosphoric acid spill area. They removed the contaminated soil and gravel (diameter approximately 32 feet with
an average depth 18 inches) and generated four (3/4 full) 20 yard bins which also includes waste material that
was used to clean out the tank. I observed a concrete layer beneath the soil. Initially, the facility believed only
soil and gravel lied beneath the tank. I also visually observed the soil to be fine, so possibly clay.
The pH for the ground soil after removal of the contaminated soil was between 4 — 5 pH. Ideally, we want the
soil to be between 6 — 8 pH before deeming the cleanup as adequate.
Elena Manzo is off today, and I was off yesterday, so I am uncertain if she came to a decision in regards to the
cleanup being adequate or if further cleanup will be needed. Elena did ask me to contact you on Wednesday,
Feb. 10, to ask if you want this complaint to be referred to you. Please advise.
Thank you,
&ate DZ. gt,g5C6
Registered Environmental Health Specialist
3
