Von Sosten Rd., Tracy, CA 95304
APN 209-460-02, SR0084479
Environmental Health Department
Jasjit Kang, REHS, Director
Muniappa Naidu, REHS, Assistant Director
PROGRAM COORDINATORS
Robert McClellon, REHS
Jeff Carruesco, REHS, RDI
Willy Ng, REHS
Melissa Nissim, REHS
Steven Shih, REHS
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed the Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading (SSNL) Study, dated November 12, 2021 for the above noted location, and has the following
comments for your consideration.
The SSNL was prepared to determine the suitability of the above noted parcel for onsite wastewater treatment
system (OWTS) usage and the potential long-term impact of nitrate to groundwater for the following proposed
third Accessory Unit Dwelling.
Based on the information provided, the EHD can make the following findings:
a. According to the SSNL, the estimated nitrate loading from existing and proposed OWTS usage is
9.65 mg/L as nitrate -nitrogen and the maximum contaminant level of 10 mg/L-N. EHD will require
a minimum of 1200 gallon septic tank, however, Engineer suggests to install a 2,000 gallon septic
tank instead for efficient disposal, system longevity and to maintain a safety environment.
b. The Percolation test conducted on November 5, 2021 yielded a percolation rate of 8.3 min/inch.
At this rate, a minimum 8 feet of soil separation is required between bottom of the dispersal field
and the groundwater. The SSNL reports a historic groundwater level of 15 feet below surface
grade. (San Joaquin County OWTS Standard Table 1.10.2).
c. The OWTS and its 100% replacement areas shall meet all required minimum setbacks stated in
San Joaquin County (OWTS) Standard and Well Standard.
If you have any questions please contact Aldara Salinas, Environmental Health Specialist, at
asalinas@sjgov.org or (209) 616-3019.
Steven Shin, REHS
Program Coordinator
c: Chesney Consulting
1868 E.
