A field investigation conducted by Hydro -Search at FSL was observed by <br />Kleinfelder geologists and included the following activities: <br />o Drilling four soil borings to depths of 20 feet, 45 feet, 50 feet, <br />and 100 feet for the purpose of constructing monitoring wells. <br />o Installing three 1 -inch -diameter PVC monitoring wells. <br />o Removing and backfilling three monitoring wells and one soil boring. <br />o Drilling ten 3 -foot -deep soil borings and measuring soil gas <br />concentrations using an HNU photoionization device (PID) and <br />combustible gas analyzer. <br />o Collecting and submitting water samples from an onsite domestic <br />water well for volatile halogenated hydrocarbons by EPA Method 601, <br />electrical conductance, pH, and total dissolved solids. <br />4.2 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION <br />Monitoring wells were installed in three of the four soil borings (Figure <br />2, Soil Boring/Monitoring Well Location Map), but were subsequently <br />removed and backfilled between April 27 and April 29, 1988. <br />The monitoring wells were constructed in 6 -inch -diameter boreholes using <br />the following materials: <br />104-88-683 <br />4 <br />
