e
LGON
CALGON CARBON CORPORATION P.O. BOX 717 PITTSBURGH, PA 15230- (412) 787-6700
0717
August 27, 1985
Mr. Ronaldo Cooks
San Joaquin Local Health District
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Mr. Cooks:
Writer's Direct Dial Number
412/787-6756
Calgon Carbon Corporation would like to landfill 350 cubic yards of
activated carbon in late September or early October from the Stockton
East Water Treatment Plant at Foothills Landfill, Waverly Road, east
of Stockton.
The activated carbon is used to remove geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol
from water to improve the taste and odor of the drinking water. Both
compounds are the result of naturally decaying vegetation.
I have enclosed a copy of the analytical report provided to Calgon by
NUS Corporation performed by standard EP toxicity leachable tests on the
granular activated carbon to be landfilled. Where the test results have
a < in front of it, this sign represents the detection limit of the test
procedure; thus, the compound could not be measured to that level.
Calgon would appreciate your approval to landfill this carbon.
If you have any questions please call me at 412/787-6756.
Very truly yours,
CALGON CARBON CORPORATION
Roland J. ourdeau
Application Engineer
RJB: ah
Encl.
