• FOR • • AN INACTIVE WELL
FOOTHILL SANITARY LANDFILL
The Foothill Sanitary Landfill is owned by San Joaquin County and
operated by Foothill Sanitary Landfill, Inc. The site is operated
as a Class III municipal waste disposal site. The site contains an
old, inactive well located outside existing landfill boundaries
(see attached figure). This is an open bottom well with no casing.
The well depth was measured at approximately 166 feet, and the
diameter is approximately 4 feet. Water was not encountered in the
well.
The County proposes to abandon this well by filling the bottom 10
feet with grout and filling the top 156 feet with soil from an on-
site borrow area. The 10 foot grout will be done by a licensed
contractor using a tremie tube. The soil filling will be performed
by landfill personnel. Work will consist of placing a soil
stockpile near the well with a scraper and pushing the soil into
the well using a front-end loader or dozer. Soil will be mounded
approximately 3 feet over the top of the well to accommodate any
settling that may occur.
R:\WES\EN\FH\ABNDONWL
