Repair Process for SEBEF/ SEBEFM, SMARTFLEX penetration fittings .
In an effort to provide a guideline in the event a repair is necessary, Nupi Americas strongly recommends the following steps.
1 . Locate the leak in the sump. Verify all possible leaks and mark them all .
2 . Remove all liquid from the sump .
3 . Apply a vacuum to the sump for 20 minutes to dry the leak point.
4 . Remove all the Petroseal Epoxy by scraping it off from the side involved by the leak. Remove the epoxy off of the fitting and the
sump .
5 . Using an angle grinder, grind the Fiberglass wall for about 2" from the fitting edge and all around the penetration fitting .
6 . Using a cutting disk, penetrate the space between the fiberglass and the fitting for at least an 1 /8" .
7 . With a hand scraper or sharp tool , remove excess material from the space .
8 . Using Medium grade abrasive paper clean and rough up the brass or aluminum fitting surfaces . This will facilitate the epoxy's grip
to the surfaces.
9 . Clean/ rinse everything with acetone .
10 . Re-apply the vacuum
11 . Fill the gap made as per step #6 with new Petroseal . Spread the epoxy over the whole metal surfaces allowing about 1 /8"
thickness of epoxy to cure over it as well as the fiberglass area previously ground.
12 . Continue to vacuum for 10 minutes after application. The liquid epoxy will be forced to move into the gap that caused the leak .
The excess epoxy will prevent the fitting surfaces from chemical attack.
13. After a 1 hour curing time , apply a second epoxy coat to thicken up the fitting protective layer. Prepare and perform the sump
test after at least 4 hours.
14 . After testing , remove Nupi test port to assure communication between the sump and fitting .
Attention: These repair instructions are intended as a reference for SP.IARTFLEX trained installers ONLY. Compliance with safety
regulations and practices shall be considered among federal, state and local rules and laws that apply to the activities.
