Page 5
Jim Monroe
Patterson Pass Business Park
Recent sediment deposits in the channel mask the existing vegetative cover. A narrow band of
wetland vegetation was observed along the bank, dominated by rabbitsfoot grass, however
most of the vegetation growing in the channel were upland species such as wild.oats and
mustard (Brassica nigra). The charwel narrows and ends abruptly as the terrain becomes flat
and opens into a field. This drainage is classified as waters of the U.S. (see Sheet 3).
Drainage B and Pond
This. drainage flows from a culvert under the California Aqueduct down a narrow canyon. .
The drainage swale is only two feet across, however the presence of algal growth along the
bottom of the channel clearly defines the boundaries. The swale is surrounded by upland
species such as mustard and rye grass. The swale appears to end in a flattened area dominated
by upland species. The narrow canyon draws to a pond. •Two data points were taken to
define the extent of the pond. At the pond's edge curly dock and Mediterranean barley
(Hordeum marinun: ssP gussoneanlrm) were the dominant species. Surrounding the pond
mus
acre upland species such as mustard, ripgut brome (Bromus diandrus), soft chess (Bro
hordaceus), fescue (Yuloia sp.), iiddleneck.(tlmsinckia sp.);milk thistle (Silybum marianum),
and mi?iers' lettuce (Claytonia perjoliata), which define the upland boundary of the pond.
Drainage B is classified as waters of the U.S., whereas the pond is classified as a wetland (see
Sheet 4).
Screages of Wetlands and Waters of the U.S.
_ Site _WetIsnd acreage Maters acreage:
_Pattersgn Run _ 2.04
_Area C _ 2•$
_- DrainageA 0.19 J
Drainage B O.Q16
Pond O.GS
We appreciate your review of this information and response to this request for a jurisdictional
determination.
