Soil Suitability /Nitrate Loading Study Irerracon
Thornton Road Trailer Parking Facility ■ Lodi, California
December 15, 2021 ■ Terracon Project No. NA217079
1.5 Soil Profile and Geologic Information
The site is depicted on the Geologic Map of California website, as within generalized quaternary
Pleistocene and Holocene deposits which are comprised primarily of unconsolidated and semi -
consolidated alluvium, lake, playa, and terrace deposits.
Terracon reviewed the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources
Conservation Service (NRCS) Web Soil Survey and USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin County
(1992) for information regarding soil properties. Based on information obtained from the USDA
sources, site soils consist of Devries sandy loam and Acampo sandy loam.
Devries sandy loam is located on the northwestern, southeastern and southwestern portions of
the site and consists of drained soils with 0 to 2 percent slopes. Parent material consists of
alluvium derived from mixed rock sources. Typical soil profiles consist of 0 to 27 inches sandy
loam, 27 to 47 inches cemented sandy loam, 47 to 62 inches sandy loam.
Acampo sandy loam is located on the northeastern portion of the site and consists of 0 to 2
percent slopes. Parent material consists of alluvium derived from granite. Typical soil profiles
consist of 0 to 47 inches sandy loam and 47 to 60 inches cemented soil.
For urban development, the main limitations of Devries and Acampo sandy loam is depth to
hardpan. Ripping the hardpan improves permeability and thus also improves the suitability of
the soil for septic tank absorption fields.
1.5.1 Soil Boring Locations
Based on information provided by the client, the proposed leach field will be located west of the
proposed Trailer Parking Facility (Exhibit 2). Three percolation test borings P1, P2, P3 were
advanced in the vicinity of the proposed leach field. Below are the approximate coordinates for
the tests.
Percolation Test
Latitude
Longitude
P1
38.1195512
-121.3941694
P2
38.119684
-121.3940366
P3
38.1198054
-121.3939396
1.5.2 Soil Boring Dimensions
Three borings were advanced using a hand auger with a 4 -inch diameter auger to 3 (P1), 3.5
(P2), and 6.3 (P3) feet bgs.
Responsive ■ Resourceful ■ Reliable 8
