Soil Suitability I Nitrate Loading Study Irerracon
Thornton Road Trailer Parking Facility ■ Lodi, California
December 15, 2021 ■ Terracon Project No. NA217079
The method takes into account the development area, soil denitrification factor, rainfall volume,
rainfall nitrate concentration, waste effluent quantity, and waste effluent nitrate concentration. The
formula, assumptions and calculations used for the analysis are shown in Appendix F. The units
of nitrate used in the mass balance equation are nitrate -N, whose maximum drinking water
contaminant level (MCL) is 10.0 mg/L.
2.1 Chemical and Physical Properties of Soil
2.1.1 Chemical and Physical Soil Properties
Terracon reviewed the USDA NRCS Web Soil Survey and USDA Soil Survey of San Joaquin
County (1992) for information regarding Devries sandy loam and Acampo sandy loam (Section
1.5). Selected physical and chemical properties for the soil types are listed in the following table.
Table 6.
Physical and Chemical Properties*
Soil Name
Soil
Septic tank
Depth
USDA
Unified Soil
Clay
Permeability
Salinity
/ Map
reaction
absorption
(in)
Texture
Classification
M
(in/hour)
(mmhos/cm)
Symbol
(pH)
fields
0-13
Sandy loam
SM
7-18
2.0-6.0
6.6-8.4
<2
Devries
Sandy loam,
Sandy
13-28
fine sandy
SM
7-18
2.0-6.0
6.6-8.4
<2
Severe;
cemented pan
loam (149)
loam
28-80
Indurated
---
---
I ---
<2
0-19
Sandy loam
SM
7-18
2.0-6.0
6.1-7.8
<2
Sandy loam,
Acampo
fine sandy
sandy
19-47
loam,
SM
7-15
2.0-6.0
6.6-804
<2
Moderate:
loam
coarse
cemented pan
(101)
sandy loam
47-49
Indurated
---
--
---
--
49-60
Cemented
---
--
---
---
---
-u.S. The percolation test has revealed that the onsite soils have adequate
percolation rates at shallow (3 and 3.5 feet bgs) and (6.3 feet bgs).
