211N003397
Narrative
Update: Patriot Environmental completed remediation at 15:30 and unit is safe to outgate. Leaking cargo was segregated and will be disposed of by
contractor; interior and exterior of trailer was cleaned; original parking spot of trailer was also cleaned. Leak was identified as a bottle of de-greaser
(UN3266) located on the bottom of a unit in the middle of the trailer that appeared slightly crushed. It was estimated that approximately 1-2 quarts of
product had leaked.
On 2021-10-05 this HAZMAT shipment was reported leaking by your driver and placed in the hazpit at the Stockton Intermodal Facility. An exterior
inspection of the unit was performed and revealed a brown colored liquid leaking from the under carriage in the center of the container at a rate of
approximately 3 drops per minute. An interior inspection was also performed to determine possible origin of leaking material, however it could not be
identified at this time. The shipment consists of multiple product types to include small quantities of hazmat loaded onto pallets and set in two rows
throughout. Airbags were used down the centerline to secure the load but no protection was utilized to prevent friction damage caused by different cargo
type surfaces rubbing together during transit.
On your behalf, Patriot Environmental was dispatched to remediate the leaking condition and render unit safe to outgate. LARS will advise once
remediation efforts have been completed. As this is a leaking load, shipper is responsible for all costs associated with remediation. In addition, please be
advised that some counties in the State of California will send BNSF Railway an invoice for their activity/handling/response charges associated with a
leaking shipment. It is not uncommon for BNSF Railway to receive these invoices several months after incident occurrence, which will be promptly
submitted to the appropriate shipper for payment. The shipper should contact the issuing county if they have any questions regarding the invoice
charges.
Important Information
All loss and damage should be documented via photos (taken inside the container/railcar where possible) and appropriate receiving records (including
security seal documentation) at the time of opening/unloading/inspection by the receiver. For information and requirements on filing a cargo claim go to
http://www,bnst com/ship-with-bnsf/support-services/cargo-loss-and-damage-claims.html.
For information on filing Intermodal equipment loss/damage claims please contact BNSF Intermodal Equipment Maintenance at
IABUDLIBUEQDMGINV@BNSF com or 1-800-446-6554, option 1.
Reportable railcar damage will be reported to car owners via the Damage and Defective Car Tracking (DDCT) system. All communication and
transactions for railcar repair should be handled through DDCT.
All claims are evaluated based upon merit.
2
