PREVENTION: Barriers are installed to prevent vehicle collision with pumps. A Vapor Recovery System is
used when filling underground tanks. No sales to unauthorized containers. No Smoking signs posted, along
with self-serve instructions posted at dispensers. A tank monitoring program is also implemented.
MITIGATION: Stop the source of the release as necessary. Operator should attempt to isolate leak
location by inspection. If it is gasoline, then stop the source of the release by activating the emergency
pump shutoff switch. Evacuate all non-essential personnel from area. Extinguish and remove all ignition
sources. Use fire extinguisher if necessary. While using proper personal protective equipment, contain and
absorb spill with inert absorbent. Avoid breathing vapors by approaching upwind. Chevron will coordinate
whatever corrective actions need to be taken beyond the Operator's capabilities. Chevron will file whatever
reports need to be filed with local and state agencies, and send a copy to the station for the Operator's
files.
ABATEMENT: Keep nonessential personnel away from the area. Place contaminated absorbent pads in
spill pad drum. Notify Chevron Maintenance Dispatch for coordination with Hazardous Materials Contractor
to remove contaminated absorbent material if required. Materials involved in cleanup will be disposed of in
accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations. Established Company investigation
procedures will be utilized to determine future preventive measures.
EARTHQUAKES: Determine if storage and delivery system is secure. This shall be accomplished via the
leak detection system as appropriate. If leak detection system indicates that a failure has occurred, make
proper notifications as outlined in this plan. Shutdown the system until proper repair and cleanup has been
accomplished.
17.HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY: Small spills shall be taken up with absorbent pads by
appropriately trained employees and stored in spill pad drum on site for pickup. Contaminated soil or other
materials from a large and/or underground release shall be disposed through Chevron Maintenance Dispatch.
18. UNAUTHORIZED RELEASE RESPONSE PLAN: Notify Chevron Maintenance if leak detection
system is in alarm. If there is an unauthorized release has occurred. The Chevron Environmental Compliance
Staff will make proper notifications to regulatory agencies. Response plan will be in accordance to UST
Tank Monitoring Plan at station.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES FOR
CARBON DIOXIDE (if applicable)
FIRE OR EXPLOSION DATA
Carbon dioxide is not flammable. CAUTION: Compressed Gas Cylinder may explode in heat of fire.
HEALTH HAZARD CAUTION:
Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation.
Contact with liquid carbon dioxide may cause frostbite
ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
1. Evacuate all personnel from affected areas. Use appropriate protective equipment.
STORAGE
Protect tank/ cylinders from physical damage
Store in cool, dry, well ventilated area away from heavily trafficked areas and emergency exits.
Do not allow temperatures to exceed 125 degrees where tank/cylinders are stored.
Tank/cylinders should be stored upright and firmly secured to prevent falling or being knocked over
Full or empty cylinders should be segregated.
Use a "first in first out" inventory system to prevent full cylinders being stored for excessive periods of time.
If equipped with a CO2 monitor, and it starts to chirp or the red-light flashes, notify maintenance who will
dispatch a contractor.
THESE EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES MUST BE FILLED OUT AND POSTED IN THE
EMERGENCY RESPONSE BINDER WITH THE SITE PLAN AT THE CASHIER PHONE
