NOTICE TO TANK TRUCK DRIVERS AND
LOADING/UNLOADING OPERATORS
Prior to filling of the generators and/or tanks, and departure of any tank truck—an inspection will be performed to
ensure that all hoses and piping are disconnected and ensure that outlets are tightened and adjusted to prevent liquid
discharge while in transit.
Tank truck drivers and/or loading/unloading operators shall adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Prior to transfer, properly lock in the closed position any drainage valves,if present, that are present in the spill
containment structure.
2. Know how to shut off the transfer flow if a transfer hose breaks, spill occurs,or threatens to occur.
3. Position delivery vehicles and vehicles to be fueled in approved locations only. Verify that these vehicles are
in spill containment structure and/or drainage area for unloading and fueling.
4. Secure the delivery vehicle prior to transfer operations with physical barriers such as wheel chocks, warning
signs, and interlocks to safeguard against accidental movement and rupture of transfer lines. Make sure that
parking brakes on delivery vehicle are set.
5. Inspect the delivery vehicle for defects prior to beginning any aspect of the unloading. Examine the drain and
outlets of the delivery vehicle for leakage or defects.
6. The driver of the delivery vehicle will not remain in the vehicle;and will not leave the vehicle unattended
during transfer operations.
7. The equipment operator of the vehicle to be fueled must be present for the duration of the fueling of the
vehicle.
8. Shut off motors of auxiliary or portable pumps before making or breaking hose connections.
9. Shut off motor of the delivery vehicle when making or breaking hose connections. If unloading is done
without requiring the use of the delivery vehicle motor, the motor is kept shut off during the unloading.
10. Shut off motor of the vehicle to be fueled before unlocking and removing fueling nozzle from its standby
position and keep the motor shut off during the fueling until completed and the fueling nozzle is back in its
standby position and locked.
11. Prior to petroleum transfer, inspect all storage tank flanges, joints, connections, and outlets for evidence of
cracks and other sources of leakage. Correct any deficiencies or leaks prior to transfer.
12. Prior to petroleum transfer, check the pumping valve lineup and verify correctness.
13. Verify that sufficient volume is available in the storage tank or the fuel tank(s)of the vehicle to be fueled to
receive the product to be pumped.
14. Establish adequate bonding/grounding of the delivery vehicle before connecting to the fuel transfer point.
202112 STK-SPCC APP-B B-1
