Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage Existing Septic System One septic system is currently located on the Site to serve the house (Plate 2). Proposed Septic System Ms. Nunez plans to install a new septic system for the new house. On -Site Septic Permit History The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were searched for the Site address. Three permits were identified: • March 1972 permit for new residential septic system. The system utilized a 1,600 -gallon tank, two 100 -foot leach lines, and two 8- by 4- by 15 -foot sumps. • March 1975 permit for addition to residential septic system. Two 36 -inch diameter by 25 -foot deep seepage pits were added to the existing system. • May 1999 permit for addition to residential septic system. Two 80 -foot leach lines and two 48 -inch diameter by 25 -foot deep seepage pit were added to the existing system. These permits have been included in Appendix 4 of this report. Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photograph was assumed to have one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 38 septic systems per square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site. The vicinity of the Site is composed of rural residences, agricultural land, and vineyards. Three dairies are located within approximately one-third of a mile of the Site. Septic Permit History in the Vicinity Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach lines with 25 -foot deep seepage pits.
