March 18, 2004
NOA Project Number: LE03-467
Page 3
performed on March 17, 2004 in accordance with the requirements of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division. All the percolation tests were observed by Michael Escotto,
Registered Environmental Health Inspector, of that office. A one-hour percolation test for P-4
was performed because the water fell 6 inches within one-half hour making it a candidate for this
test.
Measurement of the water level during the percolation test was from a fixed reference point on
the PVC casing using an electric well sounder with an depth accuracy of 1/100th foot. All values
on the field data sheet(appendix) are in decimal feet. After water drop was observed, the holes
were checked for refill. The refill level of water is approximately 6 inches above the bottom
level of the percolation test hole. The readings were taken every 10-minutes for the 1 hour
duration of the test and every 30-minutes for the 4 hour test.
A satisfactory percolation rate for a shallow(3-3.5 foot deep)test is 60 min/in or less. A
satisfactory percolation rate for the deep test is 30 min/in or less. A summary of the percolation
tests are presented next.
Summary of Percolation Tests.
Test No., Percolation Test Percolation Rate Test Comment
Date Tested Depth(ft) (minutes/inch) Duration
P-1 shallow,3-16-04 3.20 No movement 4 hr
P-2 deep, 3-16-04 20.83 83 4 hr Hole silted during winter
flooding of area. A broken
water pipe was repaired
P-3 shallow,3-16-04 13.05 No movement 4 hr
P-4 deep,3-17-04 22.1 <1.7 1 hr Redrilled deep test,
satisfactory perc.rate
observed
Discussion of Percolation Tests
As a result of the percolation testing, P-4 demonstrated a satisfactory rate in accordance with the
requirements of the San Joaquin County EDH.
The soils appears to be suitable for a standard type septic system for use with the proposed steel
building. The layout and sizing of the septic system is shown by the Mike Smith Engineering,
Inc., Lodi, the project Engineer.
