LDT has no restrictions to the MDleak® Method.
2. LDT has several chemical markers so site contamination by a single chemical marker is not a
consideration or limitation.
3. It is best for the contactor to find the majority of the leaks using whatever method they can.
Small leaks are best left to LDT crews to pinpoint and repaired then for the contractor to
spend hours looking for these little leaks.
4. Fast identification and leak location substantially reduces repair cost.
General:
1. Extraction plugs should be installed and sealed properly
2. A construction crew shall be onsite during the test period. This crew should be equipped to
repair any portion of the system.
3. The MDleak® method can test piping containing liquids. However if a liquid is present
additional time and cost will be incurred.
Product Piping:
1. The contractor shall have all shear valves plug or capped using steel not plastic fittings and
connected to the piping.
2. It is best to complete the turbine connections before the Pretest. Locating and repairing
fittings within the tank sumps during the pretesting is more efficient and less confining than
during the final ELD testing.
Secondary Piping and Connection:
1. MDleaksMdoes not require special fittings to be installed by the contractor.
2. The contractor should use standard California approved factory secondary termination fittings
or boots. Termination fittings in California require test ports. Test ports shall be accessible to
the LDT Technician.
Vent Piping:
1. Extraction plugs should be installed and sealed properly
2. Vent risers should be caped and should include test ports on each vent riser
VR Piping:
1. Extraction plugs should be installed and sealed properly
2. VR piping at the UDC should also be caped or plug using steel not plastic fittings.
Author David Rabb 2of 2
