SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
SMALL PUBLIC WATER SYSTEM
POSITIVE TOTAL COLIFORM INVESTIGATION
AUTHORRY: CALIFORNIA Cow OF REGULA TIONS, Ti7tE 22, SECTION 6"26(B)
This form is intended to assist Small Public Water Systems with completion of a Positive Total Coliform (TC) Investigation for exceeding the
Total Coliform Rule (TCR) Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL)
W ATTR SYSTI=hA C A"P Q IL
Certified Operator (CDOICTOl7 ; I-Tnnc.,-Vhc. \ Cno 1L J
Well ID
Well ID
1.
7.
Pressure Tank
2.
8.
ROUTINE
3.
fl,
REP T 1
4
1 Q.
REPEAT 2
5
11.
REPEAT 3
REPEAT 4
HER
INVESATIGATION;
Review the results above. If the #Qll is positive, then determine i# the well is ccitaminating the system, or is thess+ term contaminating the well.
To determine this inspect the wellhead for a functioning check valve. is it present ? _ 4 YIN. Is ii functioning to prevent system water from draining back into
the well? Z YIN. To verify this, open the sample tap installed an the weal side of the check valve, when the well is off. ff water runs out of the tap, then the
check valve is not functiorringlsealing properly. Water will not run out of the tap when the weH pump is off, if the check valve is functionJng.
If the valve leaks water back into the well, there the source of the contamination may originate down stream of the welt. If the check valve is holding, then most
likely the wall is the source of the contamination.
)F THE WELL IS C;QKTAMIINATING THE SYSTEM:
Perform a physical inspection as Itemized in the SOURCE section. Determine if the contamination was caused by a structural deficiency at the surface of the well
head or the construction/deterioration of the well.
Interview the operator to determine if maintenance to the well or pump took place since the last absent TC results. (were well components replaced or repaired,
weirnead seal broken, chlorination or sounding of the well performed, etc_)
