4. You mentioned that spent carbon identified as hazardous through analysis or listing is sent directly to your
hazardous waste operations in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Does Calgon have any facilities in
San Joaquin County where the hazardous spent carbon is sent directly to your hazardous waste
operations? Does Calgon use hazardous waste transport manifests to ship to waste to Kentucky or
Pennsylvania?
We do not currently have any hazardous spent customers in San Joaquin County. We do require
hazardous waste transporters for any hazardous shipments set to arrive at our TSDF sites. We offer hazardous
waste transportation arrangements through a third party, and our employees are trained to confirm that the
transporter listed on the hazardous waste manifest has an EPA ID# for verification when a customer provides
transportation.
From: Backus, Garrett [EHD] <gbackus@sigov.org>
Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2020 6:22 PM
To: Feliciano, Tony <Tony.Feliciano@kurarav.com >
Cc: Muro, Claudia [EHD] <cmuro@sIgov.org>
Subject: RE: Calgon Carbon Corporation (Stockton warehouse) NtA response - hazardous waste determination
Hi Tony,
I'm working with Claudia Muro regarding the Calgon facility on Eight Mile Road in Stockton. Thank you for the
information you've provided to us.
We'd like to get more information to get a better picture of the site operations:
For spent carbon that passes through the Stockton facility and sent to one of the reactivation plants such as
Gila Bend, AZ; please provide the hazardous waste determination information for the last loads coming from
five different source companies. We need to know if the spent carbon is hazardous waste when it's stored at
the Stockton facility. We also need to know what type of waste water is being treated at the five source
companies.
For residual water sent to EBMUD or other disposal facilities; provide transport manifests for the last five loads
and the corresponding hazardous waste determination for each one.
For spent carbon that does not pass quality requirements for reactivation and is hauled for disposal from the
Stockton facility. Please provide the last five transport manifests and the hazardous waste determination
information for each one.
You mentioned that spent carbon identified as hazardous through analysis or listing is sent directly to your
hazardous waste operations in Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
